35th wedding anniversary trip to Les Iles de la Madeleine

On August 22nd we set off for Charlottetown and two nights at The Shipwright Inn downtown. It was the very first time I had crossed the Confederation Bridge-last time I went to PEI, it was on a car ferry between Cape Tormentine, NB and Borden, PEI! Times have changed!

On Monday we drove to Souris, checked into the ferry terminal then had a fabulous feed of mussels opposite the wharf at 21 Breakwater Restaurant. At 2 p.m. we set sail for the five-hour journey to The Maggies, arriving through the fog at Cap-aux-Meules.

Leaving PEI:

Arriving in The Maggies:

We spent four nights in the B&B Havre-sur-Mer at the very southern end of the island chain. Our view from our balcony was of the local fishing wharf and the beach.

Day one we picked up the very last two living lobsters in the local grocery store and after digging clams, hit the beach with our big pot and propane gas ring!

It doesn't get any better than this, does it? We added a fresh baguette, some take-out salads and our favourite bottle of French Sauvignon Blanc (Lurton Fumé Blanc).

Day 3 we drove around all the little islands, stopping at the Fromagerie and the glass factory, where we bought some colourful water tumblers for home.

At the most northerly part of the Island, the wharf and a great pizza restaurant in Grande Entrée:

No frolicking for this boat, grounded by the wharf near our B&B:

High surf, wind and rain on our last day-view from our B&B:

Leaving Cap-aux-Meules August 28th on the early 8 a.m. ferry, having stopped at the local bakery for breakfast. A very pretty spot to visit! Au revoir...

Location:Quebec, Gulf of St. Lawrence
