From central Corsica to Cap Corse in the North

The beautiful weather of the weekend gave way to heavy rains as we drove through Corte en route to Bastia on Cap Corse.

We spent two nights in the seaside town of Erbalunga, at the Hôtel Demeure Castel Brando, a 19th century mansion with views of the sea.

The view from our room:

We enjoyed a great dinner across the street at A Piazetta on our first evening. The following day, we drove counter-clockwise around the northern tip of the cape, stopping for a fresh fish lunch at Osteria Di U Portu in Macinaggio:

After lunch, we hiked along the beach towards one of the many Genoese towers which dot the coast. A view of the Îles Finocchiarola, a nature reserve and important breeding site for seabirds.

Due to bad timing on our part, we missed visiting the many wineries in the area around Patrimonio, to the west of Bastia. However, we didn't miss enjoying many different Corsican wines during our week on the island!

A la prochaine...
