From our room:
We mostly took the main highway across the island, N193, detouring to check out the popular mineral water fountain at the Eaux d'Orezza, in the Morianincu mountain region. We had hoped to visit the bottling plant, but were told it was "impossible"! We did, however, enjoy the bottled water in many restaurants on the island. Pat's take on the on-site fountain was "Yuck! Full of iron!"
We stopped for lunch of fresh local lamb and salad at the Osteria Di U Cunventu, run by a husband-wife team, in the little village of Morosaglia. This was the view from the restaurant:
While Pat flew to Nice for the day, I explored Ajaccio, starting with the Maison Bonaparte, where Corsica's beloved native son was born in 1769 and raised as a child.
From there I browsed the daily open-air market in the Campinchi Square enjoying fresh brocciu fritters, among other local delicacies. After a lovely lunch of fresh mussels under the awning at Restaurant Les Halles, I went to visit the Musée Fesch, containing France's largest collection of Italian paintings outside the Louvre. Later in the afternoon, I had a cold drink at the famous Grand Café Napoléon on the main shopping street, Cours Napoléon.
A la prochaine...
