Central Corsica hike April 1, 2012

After breakfast at the B&B, consisting of bread, jam made with "cédrats", a type of lumpy lemon, cereal, yogurt, etc., we packed up for our day-hike into the surrounding mountains. Jean-François lent us a detailed map, although we got turned around at one point and did only part of his recommended route.

Picnic lunch by the waterfall:

Early spring crocuses along the way:

Before returning to the B&B after our hike, we headed back to the coast and drove around Les Calanques, between Porto and Piana. The almost sheer granite cliffs, more than 400 m high, rise up directly from the sea. They are the most amazing colours of pink, ochre and ginger, made even more brilliant in the late afternoon sun. They are now deemed a World Heritage Site.

Turning away from the sea and heading inland once again through the Gorges de Spelunca, note the different rock formations and colour.

A la prochaine...
