Weekend at The Dorchester September 24-26, 2011

Ahead of Coty meetings held at Leeds Castle in Kent, Pat and I flew to Gatwick to spend a weekend at the posh Dorchester Hotel in Mayfair, celebrating its 80th anniversary this year.
The weather was perfect, sunny and almost too hot! Here are some highlights:

Inside hotel lobby, The Promenade, a lovely place for breakfast or tea!

Walking along Picadilly and through Green Park towards Buckingham Palace:

Note the beautiful wall on the corner of this hotel!

Canada Gates near The Palace

A vintage Rolls Royce backfiring and broken down on The Mall!

After Changing the Guard

A message for drivers of double-decker busses!

The famous Thames River

A food festival alongside The London Eye with various buskers and artists

Having fun with giant bubbles!

The London Eye with Big Ben and Westminster in the background

Statues of King George VI and the Queen Mother along The Mall

Bronze relief of the Queen Mother meeting with Londoners during The Blitz 1940

We had a snack at a local Mayfair pub before attending a performance of "The Wizard of Oz", which was excellent. They used most of the songs from the 1939 movie, along with a few new ones written by Andrew Lloyd Webber. We really enjoyed it, particularly the technical wizardry (thanks to computers) and Toto, a darling white Scottish terrier! He was so cute and how did they train him to be so well behaved, but to bark like crazy at the wicked witch and at the wizard!

We followed the show with a late dinner at a nearby Thai restaurant, which was delicious!

More to come...keep checking! My new IPad makes blogging SO much easier! Thanks, Ben, for the help this summer!
