A long weekend in Amsterdam February 27-March 2, 2015

It has been over forty years since I last visited Amsterdam as a student in Münster, Germany (except for passing through Schipol Airport on trips back home) and as Pat had never been, we decided to meet there for a few days on
his return from two weeks in the Coty plant in Sanford, NC. We did a lot of wandering around the city centres, along and over many canals, we visited the famous Rijksmuseum and the Late Rembrandt exhibition, the Van Gogh museum and the Anne Frank House, we enjoyed delicious dinners in well-recommended restaurants and we stayed at the lovely Banks Mansion Hotel on Herengracht.

Here is the view from our room:

The next two pictures were taken from our hour-long canal cruise on Sunday morning. We loved the architecture of the narrow brick canal houses with their differing tops, their colourful shutters and their pretty windows. Beauty doesn't come cheap, however, in central Amsterdam!

Shops in the floating flower market-colours and tulips everywhere!

This one's for Steph-her favourite flowers!

And more flowers...spring is coming!

My favourite scene-so typically Amsterdam-a bike AND flowers!

And no need to pack a snack while sightseeing-just pop into one of the namy cheese shops and there are samples galore! We even found blue Gouda infused with lavender, one with arugula and of course, our perennial favourites-with cumin seed and the green pesto!

Art lovers check back soon! Hasta luego...
